First daughters

This is my entry for Tara's Gallery at Sticky Fingers. The theme this week is: Here come the girls!

These days and age, what with women keeping their own names and sometimes even passing them on to their children, family lineage is becoming harder to trace, and maybe a little less significant. Or another way of seeing it, is that it's becoming less interesting to men, but that other aspects of lineage are coming out more clearly.

So here's one. My daughter, myself and my mother are all first daughters. We're all the eldest of our families.
We rule.

They also say eldest children like to hang out with others like them.
From age five my best friend was also an oldest daughter. Here's a picture of her and Charlotte together. More first daughters.

Oh, one last thing. If you liked this post, would you mind terribly clicking on the RSS feed, here, or the Google connect buttons (top left), or by email at the bottom of this page? And if you didn't like it, you might still want to look around. There's three of us, you know, so you're (almost) bound to find something you like. And then, if you've still got time, you could share this post or stumble it, or both and get in touch with your local tv station to sing our praises. We'll love you forever.

Love the lineage track. It is important! Glad you mentioned the email subs. It wasn't working so I'll sign up again!

Tried to sign up again & it tells me I'm already registered but I haven't been getting them. Might be good for you to check. Bound to be me but just in case!!

No it's me, not you! Can't get it to work, somehow - something to do with feedburner. I just had to get rid of it... Thanks for commenting!

The collage with your photos looks great!

Thank you! My mum had it made a few years ago and I scanned it. I love that we're all three roughly the same age.

Great post. I'm one of those women keeping her name after marriage, adding my surname as well to my daughters surname, and confusing future family historians no doubt!

Sandrine said...

@Sarah: it is, thanks!
@Tilly: all the more reasons why we should make sure the historians of the future are women!

OKAY!!! Sandrine keeps saying I'm a bad girl because I missed (for very good reasons) 2 weeks of the gallery, and she steals my go this week !!! pfff !!!But as we're sisters, that was exactky what I wanted to do, post this picture, and an other one with the 3 of us, but not a one from ages ago...
oh by the way sandrine, I'm the one who made this collage for Mum !!!!

Lovely pictures. I love thinking of the women in my family as one long line. Hadn't occurred to me before that my grandmother, my mum, me and my daughter are all first daughters - my great grand mother breaks the chain though, she was apparently the youngest of 17!

Sandrine said...

@Sister3 - Well, that makes it nearly ok that you didn't do the post this week then!
@whatdidyoudotodaymama: how cool! My grandmother was second of four girls, but first born of the man my greatgrandmother actually married. Don't know if that counts. But 17 children: wow! All by the same mother? She must have been strong.
